Isometric Strength Testing

At Back In Health, we use Isometric Strength testing to measure your strength, movement quality, asymmetry, and rate of force development with precision that hands-on assessment alone can’t provide. The result is a clear, data-driven picture of where you are now and how your progress can be tracked over time.

The amount of force that the patient can produce is measured to assess the strength of the muscle. Isometric muscle testing is a reliable and valid way to measure muscle strength. It is often used in clinical settings to assess muscle strength in people with injuries or muscle weakness.

Isometric muscle testing can also be used to monitor the progress of rehabilitation.

To perform isometric muscle testing, the examiner will first identify the muscle to be tested. The examiner will then apply a fixed resistance to the muscle while the patient contracts the muscle. The amount of force that the patient can produce is then measured.

We use VALD DynaMo, a handheld dynamometer used in clinical and sports settings, to measure how much force you can produce in a specific muscle or movement. Your results are recorded in the VALD Hub and shared with you through the VALD Health app, so you can see your numbers, compare left to right, and track how they change between tests.
